F1 | Charles Leclerc rejects a possible change for the future
Charles Leclerc has expressed his opposition to some of the modifications being discussed regarding the future of Formula 1 weekends. The topic has been raised frequently in recent years and will likely remain on the agenda in the coming months. Sprint races and reverse grids have long been a passion of Stefano Domenicali, who has always been convinced that there is still room to further improve the show offered to fans. The former Ferrari Team Principal can rely on the figures and the growth in Formula 1’s global popularity seen in recent years. Nevertheless, several F1 drivers, including Charles Leclerc, are not particularly enthusiastic about such changes for the near future.
Charles Leclerc’s comments on the possible changes
The Monegasque Ferrari driver spoke about the subject during one of the media sessions at the most recent Grand Prix. He explained: “We haven’t really discussed it much among ourselves. I think the current number of Sprint races is sufficient. I wouldn’t want to have more than we do now, and I also believe that a reverse grid would not be a good idea for standard weekends. Maybe it could be used during Sprint races, why not?”
Charles Leclerc then added: “I still believe these kinds of things are not part of Formula 1’s DNA. I wouldn’t change anything compared to the current situation.”
The subject will continue to be debated in the upcoming meetings between drivers, teams and Formula 1, with the aim of evaluating what opportunities could be introduced for the future of the sport.
