Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has responded to his early-season critics after a difficult start to the 2022 Formula 1 campaign. Carlos Sainz secured to podium finished in the first three races of the current season, but it was clear from te start that the Spaniard was not able to match the pace of his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc behind the wheel of the F1-75, unlike during the previous championship, when Carlos proved capable of setting lap times similar to the Monegasque’s.
The new rules and regulation for the 2022 Formula 1 season led to a new generation of challengers and Carlos Sainz admitted he found it difficult to capitalize on the strengths of the Maranello team’s F1-75 car given the characteristics of his driving style. The Spanish driver worked hard to adapt to the new generation of cars and the results have been visible in recent races, as Carlos Sainz even took his first Formula 1 race win at the Silverstone circuit in the British Grand Prix.
As for those who have already written off his chances of fighting Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez for the 2022 Formula 1 world title, Carlos Sainz pointed to how his previous championships in Formula 1 have developed:
“I say let’s see at the end of the year,” the Scuderia Ferrari driver, as he currently sits fourth in the standings, 75 points adrift of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, ahead of the French Grand Prix – “I think it’s still early. It was early when I finished P2 [at the season opener] in Bahrain and everyone said it’s going to be an easy walk in the park for Ferrari. I said it when I was in my low moment in Barcelona after the spin in the race, and I say it now: it’s too early still to tell and to say. I understand people that say [I’m not the championship-challenging Ferrari driver], because it hasn’t been my easiest start of the season. But if you look closely to my last four or five seasons in F1, I’ve always peaked in the second half and I’ve always done a very strong second half, so let’s wait and see.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
