Formula 3 has crowned its 2025 champion one weekend early. The successor to Italian driver Leonardo Fornaroli, who currently leads the Formula 2 championship, is Rafael Camara. The Brazilian, born in 2005, secured the title with a round to spare, meaning he can already celebrate while preparing for the final event at Monza with the trophy in hand.
Despite the cancellation of the Feature Race in Spa due to adverse weather conditions, Camara’s rivals could not challenge him. Starting from the back of the grid in Budapest, the young Ferrari Driver Academy talent dominated the wet first race on Sunday with ease.
Rafael Camara’s 2025 season
In his rookie year in Formula 3 and driving the new generation car, Rafael Camara has achieved five pole positions, including an impressive debut pole in Melbourne. Besides Australia, he started from first position in Sakhir, Imola, Barcelona, and most recently in Hungary.
Regarding race wins, Camara triumphed in the Feature Race during his very first F3 weekend in Melbourne. He followed this up with another victory in Bahrain the following Sunday. His other two wins came in the longer races at Barcelona and Budapest.
Before this outstanding season, the Brazilian driver had already made a name for himself in junior categories. In 2021 at Adria, he won the WSK Champions Cup, the WSK Super Master Cup in Belgium, and also claimed a victory in a European championship race in the Champions of the Future class. In 2022, he competed in both Formula 4 UAE and the Italian F4 championship, finishing third overall in both. In 2023, he progressed to Formula Regional with Prema before moving to Trident for the 2025 Formula 3 season.
Since 2021, Camara has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy family after winning the SFDA Scouting World Finals, becoming the third Brazilian driver, alongside Enzo Fittipaldi and Gianluca Petecof, to carry the iconic Ferrari badge. Looking ahead, while some details remain uncertain, it is likely we will see Rafael Camara step up to Formula 2 next year.
