The announcement of drivers who will race in various championships from minior series next year are arriving very slowly. Today there was the official confirmation that the promising Ferrari Driver Academy member Maya Weug will compete in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, a FIA-certified regional European Formula 3 racing series.
Below we report the announcement and her words.
A girl in the FRECA series in 2023
18-year-old Spanish driver Maya Weug, after a few years in Kart, where she also defeated Dino Beganovic among others (who would later become one of her teammates within the Ferrari program), arrived in Formula 4 in 2021 where she raced for Iron Linx, alongside the new Formula 3 driver Leonardo Fornaroli and the Porsche driver Pietro Armanni. In the same year she took part in and won a track scouting by the Maranello team, therefore earning a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy and writing a truly important page in the history of the Prancing Horse: she was the first girl to join the prestigious young driver program. She also participated in a few days of testing with a Formula 3 single-seater in November 2021 alongside Doriane Pin in the Iron Dames and the W Series drivers Nerea Marti and Irina Sidorkova.
Maya Weug, after also completing the 2022 season in the F4 championship, has confirmed her move with the KIC Motorsport team in the Formula Regional championship: ” I’m really excited to be joining KIC Motorsport in 2023 in the Formula Regional by Alpine championship. We’ve had some good tests together this winter and therefore I can’t wait for the new season to get underway” – the Ferrari Driver Academy member said.
