Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc said he would be “very happy” to see women racing in Formula 1 in the future. Charles discussed the subject in a recent interview for Mission Winnow, a change lab focused on reframing conversations, sparking open debate, connecting people and supporting the realization of innovative ideas.
Mission Winnow has been title partner of Scuderia Ferrari since it was first launched at the 2018 Japanese Grand Prx.
“I would be happy to see a girl in Formula One. Not just because she is a girl but because she is talented enough. I think there are some very talented women that can be in Formula One in the next few years.” – Charles Leclerc explained.
More than four decades have passed since a woman got the chance to start on the Formula 1 grid. In 1958, Maria Teresa de Filippis became the first woman to take part in a F1 event, while Lella Lombardi competed for several teams in the 1970s.
More recently, Susie Wolff (the wife of Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team) was present at the 2015 British Grand Prix, yet only to take part in a practice session.

British racing driver who competes in Extreme E and the W Series Jamie Chadwick seems to have the best chances of eventually getting a chance in Formula One. She won the W Series championship in 2019 and 2021 and is a development driver for Williams. At this time she has 15 Super Licence points, as a total of 40 super licence points is needed for a driver to be able to compete in the top bracket of single-seater racing, and 25 needed to take part in a Formula 1 practice session.
Alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, other drivers have offered their support to women in motorsport. After her final race at the Circuit of the Americas last week, Williams teammate and Formula 1 star George Russell came out to support Chadwick on another historic title.
