Ferrari and Charles Leclerc, a union that could not break. The opening statement of the article loudly asserts the will of both parties. The sporting love that the Monegasque harbors for the Italian team is well known. This liaison began many years ago when the young boy from Monaco, watching the red cars speed through the streets of the principality, dreamed of one day writing several pages of Formula 1 history aboard the red car.
An aspiration that is only just beginning, as the Ferrari enthusiast claims, where the best is yet to come. Charles’s journey as a paid driver for the Modena-based team has not been rich in satisfactions. Five victories that are not at all sufficient considering the talent in “our” team. Many promises unfulfilled, tainted by wrong technical projects. Nevertheless, Charles Leclerc, despite not holding back his frustrations with his second family, has always worked as a team player.
He transformed the many, too many disappointments into competitive spirit to achieve important results considering the technical material available. The Ferrari driver ardently desires to be crowned Formula One world champion and, as he has repeatedly emphasized, he wants to do it while holding the steering wheel of the red car. This is his determination, which he continues to work tirelessly on.
In the upcoming 2024 racing campaign, Charles Leclerc will be at the center of the project. This has been supported for several months now. A necessary measure for the Italian team, which, finally, despite the presence of the second driver Carlos Sainz, has decided to strongly focus on Leclerc’s enormous capabilities. This total support is reflected in the recently publicized contractual agreement between both parties. It is not merely about money but rather the performance of the upcoming aero-mechanical works from Maranello.
Ferrari: “The stipulative alliance” with Charles Leclerc
The basic idea of the Monegasque is straightforward: to bind himself to the Prancing Horse in the long term. The goal is significant, considering that the aspiration aims to open a winning cycle from 2026 onwards, a mandate in which Frederic Vasseur is convinced he can change the recent narrative of Formula 1. All this while keeping in mind that, although beating Red Bull before the rule change might be possible, the accumulated advantage remains quite high at the moment.
Precisely for this reason, with a planning strategy in hand, the most realistic target is to present itself at the start of the 2026 season with the best car in the field and, in fact, create a “competitive era” decidedly different from the current one. This is considering that by then, all the recruited technicians, including Loic Serrá, a prominent figure from France poached from Mercedes, will be operational.
In such a context, although Charles Leclerc has sworn “eternal love” for the red team and his desire remains to be crowned world champion with Ferrari, it is clear that a rescission clause could undoubtedly be present. After all, in these cases, within a competitive and elitist world like the top tier of motorsport, it is nothing new, even regarding other drivers.

As far as we know, Max Verstappen himself has one, just like Lando Norris, who, like Charles Leclerc, dreams of leading McLaren to triumph, beating the reigning world champions. Knowing the details of an F1 contract is very complicated. These are highly confidential pieces of information that no one reveals to the public. Nevertheless, we can argue that within the “stipulative alliance” signed by Charles Leclerc, a clause might be present. A kind of “convenient exit” from Maranello.
All this, keeping in mind that the Italian team, being a party to the contractual matter and certainly not naive, should have carefully assessed the much-talked-about scenario during the last week regarding the renewal of the Ferrari driver. A context that should take place only under clearly predefined conditions. This is because, obviously, Ferrari would have sought to protect itself as much as possible for the near future.
In other words, to simplify the concept as much as possible: Charles should be able to avail himself of a clause to leave the red team, not redeeming the option for the two additional years stipulated in his contract that includes a 3+2 (fixed + variable) arrangement. This is if the 2026 Maranello-branded car, the year when the new regulatory era will come into effect, is unable to compete for victories. We are talking about a predetermined number of stage wins, not an iridate triumph bringing the title back to Maranello.
