Ferrari confident SF-26 cooling upgrades will withstand Miami heat after key Monza test. Ferrari are confident their SF-26 cooling system will handle Miami’s extreme heat.

Ferrari are heading into the 2026 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix with growing confidence that their latest developments will prevent any reliability concerns, particularly regarding cooling, despite limited representative conditions during their recent Monza filming day.

The Maranello-based team used the iconic Italian circuit for a crucial filming session during the extended break in the calendar, taking advantage of the opportunity to gather valuable data after several races were cancelled earlier in the season. With track action restricted to 200 kilometres and conducted on Pirelli demonstration tyres, the primary goal was not outright performance, but system validation and correlation work.

One of the central objectives for Ferrari was to assess energy management and thermal behaviour on a circuit known for placing heavy demands on power units. Monza’s long straights and high-speed profile offered a useful baseline, even if ambient temperatures remained far below those expected in Florida.

Alongside these system checks, the Italian side also continued evaluating a comprehensive aerodynamic upgrade package that will be introduced at the Miami International Autodrome. Internal expectations suggest that a significant portion of the SF-26 will be updated, with multiple components redesigned to improve efficiency, balance and overall performance.

Cooling performance under scrutiny ahead of Miami challenge

Reports indicate that Ferrari engineers have identified thermal management as one of the most critical factors heading into the Miami Grand Prix, where high ambient temperatures and humidity levels are expected to push hybrid systems to their limits.

Although conditions at Monza did not exceed 20°C, the data collected during the filming day allowed the team to simulate and model more extreme scenarios. Based on these findings, Ferrari’s technical department has formed the view that the current cooling configuration of the SF-26 should be capable of coping with the significantly hotter environment in Miami.

This confidence is particularly important given the complexity of modern hybrid power units, where overheating can compromise both performance and reliability. Ensuring stable operating temperatures will be essential for maintaining consistent race pace across the weekend.

During the Monza session, Charles Leclerc also tested an updated version of Ferrari’s Halo-mounted aerodynamic elements, while additional work was carried out on the innovative “Macarena” rear wing concept, which remains one of the most closely watched developments within the paddock.

These combined updates reflect Ferrari’s broader strategy to refine both aerodynamic efficiency and mechanical robustness, as the team looks to deliver a more complete and competitive package for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Limited margin for error in Sprint weekend format

The challenge in Miami is further intensified by the Sprint weekend format, which significantly reduces practice time and limits the opportunity for teams to fine-tune their setups after initial running. This places additional pressure on the Maranello team to arrive with a well-optimised configuration from the outset.

Any need to make late adjustments to cooling or aerodynamic balance could compromise performance, particularly in a highly competitive field where several rival teams are also expected to introduce major upgrades.

Ferrari’s internal assessment suggests that the risk of unexpected overheating issues has been minimised, with engineers believing that the SF-26 will be able to operate within safe parameters even under the demanding climatic conditions expected in Miami.

For Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, this represents a crucial step in Ferrari’s development trajectory. A reliable and thermally stable car will allow both drivers to fully exploit the potential of the new upgrade package, as the Scuderia aims to translate technical progress into stronger race results.

As the Formula 1 season resumes, the Miami Grand Prix will serve as a key benchmark for Ferrari’s latest innovations, offering the first real indication of whether their extensive preparation and development work can deliver the desired performance gains.
