It may seem incredible, but the sensor that alerted the central unit of the red car to a malfunction on the SF-23 was not isolated by the safety systems because the issue occurred during the formation lap at a speed not suitable for the race, bypassing other “recovery” systems that should protect Ferrari’s mechanics. A gap was identified, and the electronics addressed it to prevent the issue from recurring.
Ferrari has investigated the blackout that halted Charles Leclerc during the formation lap of the Brazil Grand Prix. It may sound strange, but the technical problem that “shut down” Charles Leclerc’s SF-23 was the low travel speed: a sensor had detected a presumed issue with the differential and triggered the “recovery” of the car’s hydraulic system, causing steering stiffening, non-functioning of the gearbox and brake-by-wire, as well as the shutdown of the 6-cylinder turbo.
Suddenly, Charles Leclerc found himself a passenger in his car, unable to intervene as the car collided at Turn 6 of the Interlagos circuit. It seems that the low-speed parameter significantly influenced the safety systems, not activating the various recovery maps in the central unit that should isolate only the element in crisis, without shutting down the red car, as happened before the start at the circuit named after Carlos Pace.
A series of strange coincidences occurred, leading to Charles Leclerc’s incredible incident, forcing him to withdraw from the race after rightfully securing the front row in qualifying. Naturally, the Ferrari electronics team, aware of what happened in Interlagos, intervened on the safety features of the red car to ensure that an episode like the one in the Brazil GP does not happen again.

According to rumors, Scuderia Ferrari returns to the American continent with the hope of performing well in Las Vegas: even though there are 20 points to recover on Mercedes for the second place in the Constructors’ Championship, the Maranello team led by Fred Vasseur will try to make the most of the SF-23 on a track with very fast sections that resemble Baku in some straights.
