F1 | Ferrari secures pivotal energy deal shaping Maranello’s future
Ferrari has taken a decisive step toward its energy future with a long-term agreement that promises to reshape the industrial and energy landscape of the iconic Maranello factory. But what exactly lies behind this strategic move?
The Italian team has signed a ten-year deal with Shell Energy Italia for the supply of 650 GWh of renewable energy, dedicated entirely to Ferrari’s Modena facility. This structural agreement is designed to fundamentally transform the way Ferrari powers the production of its world-class vehicles.
This collaboration builds on a longstanding partnership between Ferrari and Shell, but this time it assumes an entirely new scale. Shell Energy Italia will generate renewable energy through a specially developed plant and provide the additional electricity needed to cover Ferrari’s total energy requirements in Italy. The outcome is clear: the Maranello site will benefit from a stable, fully green energy supply for the next decade.
Gianluca Formenti, CEO of Shell Energy Italia, described the deal as “a concrete example of collaboration to develop innovative and sustainable business models.” He emphasized the goal of producing more energy with fewer emissions, a core pillar of the company’s strategy.
Davide Abate, Chief Industrial Officer of Ferrari, underlined the significance of the agreement, stating that “this deal represents another important step toward decarbonizing the Maranello plant.” Abate highlighted Ferrari’s ambitious target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by at least 90% by 2030, a goal that requires continuous deep interventions and substantial investments.
The vision is clear: to make Maranello an increasingly efficient, modern, and clean-energy-powered facility. The partnership with Shell Energy Italia is more than just an energy supply—it is a strategic milestone set to influence production, environmental policy, and Ferrari’s global image over the coming decade.
Why this deal matters for Ferrari and Formula 1
Ferrari’s move toward renewable energy reflects the team’s commitment to sustainability while remaining at the forefront of automotive and racing innovation. By securing a stable supply of green energy, Ferrari not only reduces its environmental footprint but also sets an example for the wider motorsport industry. This alignment of industrial strategy and sustainability could influence both on-track operations and the global perception of the Scuderia.
Ferrari and Shell have turned a historic technical partnership into a cornerstone of the company’s net-zero journey. Ten years of clean energy locked in today means the factory that gave us the F40, LaFerrari and every scarlet F1 car will soon run entirely on renewable power.
For a company that trades on passion and performance, going green at this scale is the ultimate power move.
