Charles Leclerc has put an end to the rumors surrounding Fred Vasseur and his possible replacement at the head of Ferrari. The 2025 season has so far failed to meet the high expectations set at the start of the year, fueling recent speculation about Fred Vasseur’s position and potential leadership changes within the Scuderia. Despite the Frenchman’s contract renewal, some reports had suggested contacts between Ferrari and former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. However, Ferrari chairman John Elkann firmly denied these rumors, expressing his full confidence in the work Fred Vasseur is doing at Maranello. His words were later echoed by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, both of whom have long-standing professional and personal relationships with Fred Vasseur.
The support from Charles
During the media day for the Mexican Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was once again asked about the rumors regarding Ferrari’s management and the support that he and teammate Lewis Hamilton have shown for Fred Vasseur. Charles Leclerc explained: “I think we’re speaking from the heart and saying what we believe is right. It’s very important to point out that all these rumors are unfounded, and it’s not like Lewis and I sit down together to talk about them. But we’ve both known Fred for many years. We both believe he’s the right person to bring Ferrari back to the top. On that, we are completely aligned, so there was no need to discuss it.”
Charles Leclerc also addressed speculation about his own future, reiterating the importance of focusing on performance rather than external pressure. “That’s how things go. I’ve been with the team since 2019, and I know that this kind of talk is always blown out of proportion. Do I like it? Of course not. I don’t think anyone in the team enjoys it. We’d much rather focus on what really matters to us, but that’s just how it works.”
The Monegasque driver went on to highlight how Ferrari’s stature amplifies both its successes and its struggles: “I think Ferrari is very special because every time we do something good, it’s magnified and becomes something incredible. But the same goes for the opposite, and that makes it harder to manage the highs and lows when you drive for a team like Ferrari. But it’s also what makes it so unique, and we have to make sure these things don’t affect us.”
Charles Leclerc concluded by stressing that the team has remained focused despite the external noise: “So far, I don’t think we’ve been affected, because once again, we had a great weekend in Austin considering everything that was going on around the team. It’s not easy, but we did a good job as a group, and we have to keep going in this direction.”
