Big hopes for 2023
It seems like a long time has passed since the official presentation of the Ferrari SF-23 on Valentine’s Day at the Fiorano circuit. Fans and supporters had breathed new life into Maranello, with the hosts Benedetto Vigna, Frederic Vasseur, Charles Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz more hopeful than ever that the 2023 single-seater of Scuderia Ferrari would be able to bring the world championship title back to Italy after 15 years of absence (the last constructor championship won back in 2008).
Many will remember that Benedetto Vigna had presented the car to journalists as “a single-seater that will have no precedents in terms of speed” and had not hidden the sole objective of victory for a team and a historical brand like Ferrari. Just two and a half months later and with four Formula 1 GPs behind them, the goal of the world title for the men from Maranello seems rather faded on the horizon, with a Red Bull steamrolling to victory – with a huge gap – in all races held so far this season.
It is no secret that the chief executive officer, with the assistance of team principal Frederic Vasseur, is implementing a reorganization of the Formula 1 team, with the precise aim of strengthening the technical framework of the Scuderia. On Thursday in Miami, Charles Leclerc also explained the importance of not panicking: “This is the situation, in the end, we are focused on taking one step at a time, in the areas to improve. I want to get back to fighting for victory in the shortest possible time, but it’s not just my goal, it’s also the team’s. Obviously, we expected more, but now it is like this, and we have to focus on the future. We need to quickly improve the car to get back to fighting for success.” – the Monegasque pointed out.
Benedetto Vigna’s analysis of the first GPs
As is known, Ferrari’s top management does not comment on the Maranello team’s performance and progress in the media, and thus conference calls with analysts are the right moment to understand their thoughts on the Formula 1 team. Yesterday Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari spoke about the exceptional results of the product on the market, but also dedicated a reflection to the premier category of motorsports:
“The year has just begun with mixed results so far. 2023 will be the longest season of Formula 1. We will continue to fight with ambition and humility race after race. Someone else has made a faster car, but for us, this represents an invitation to do better. And we will. The sporting dimension reminds you that there are always competitors.” – Benedetto Vigna said.
