After several weeks of news and speculation, Ferrari have officially confirmed that Frederic Vasseur will become the new Maranello Formula 1 Team Principal, therefore replacing Mattia Binotto.
The first key moment took place early on Tuesday morning when Alfa Romeo confirmed that the Frenchman would leave the team after six years. A few hours later, the Maranello team announced that Fred Vasseur would take up the post following Mattia Binotto’s resignation as head of the Formula 1 Racing Division, a role he has held for the last four seasons.
The Ferrari senior management (John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna) were not pleased with Mattia Binotto’s performance after the Italian side was not able to live up to expectations and challenge Red Bull for the titles in 2022, despite the solid pace of the F1-75 car in the first part of the year.
Fred Vasseur will now have the difficult task of taking over and leading Ferrari to its first title since 2008. The Frenchman will join Ferrari as Team Principal and General Manager starting with January 9th, 2023.
Italian physicist and businessman Benedetto Vigna, the chief executive officer of Ferrari, wanted to praise Frederic Vasseur for how he has “combined his technical strengths as a trained engineer with a consistent ability to bring out the best in his drivers and teams.”
