In the post-race of the Austrian Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, even before learning about the track limits penalty, appeared very frustrated due to the Maranello team’s poor race management, which prevented him from overtaking his teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished on the podium in second place behind Red Bull’x Max Verstappen, who easily went on to take the race win in Spielberg.
Speaking to the microphones of the French TV channel Canal+, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur put an end to the controversies surrounding the team orders given to Carlos Sainz, thus outlining an internal hierarchy that would favor Charles Leclerc.
Fred Vasseur tough on Carlos Sainz
Fred Vasseur stated on the French TV channel: “We had a pre-race strategy to create a gap with the rest of the field, and we shouldn’t waste time trying to overtake others. Obviously, when you’re behind with DRS, you think you’re faster, but Carlos knew the strategy from the beginning and had to respect it. I think he wanted to put us under pressure.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
It seems that Ferrari is ready to race at Silverstone with a clear understanding of the driver situation, ironically on the circuit where Charles Leclerc was sacrificed last year, while still battling Max Verstappen, in favor of Carlos Sainz’s first victory.
