The last edition of the Brazilian Grand Prix held in 2019 was not a memorable one for Scuderia Ferrari, since the race of the two SF90s ended prematurely due to the contact between Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel in the ‘Reta Oposta’, the straight that connects Turns 3 and 4. The two Ferrari drivers were fighting for fourth position and the collision ended the race for both the German and the Monegasque.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have proved to be much more collaborative in this 2021 and Ferrari heads to Brazil with the aim of consolidating the third place they have just earned in the constructors’ standings, as the men in red are ahead of McLaren with an advantage of 13.5 points thanks to the 18 points scored in Mexico against just one point of Lando Norris, tenth at the finish after having started from the back of the grid. Ferrari has therefore presented the Interlagos weekend, which will be a new test for the updated hybrid system of the power unit:

“Interlagos is a medium-to-high downforce circuit, mainly due to its slower middle sector that has two low speed corners. However, engine power is also important as the first and third sectors have straights and flat out corners. Overtaking is definitely on the cards, which makes it popular with the drivers, even if they are well aware that it can be tricky, partly because of the bumpy nature of the track, which is built on soft clay soil. The races here are often spectacular with overtaking possible at the first corner and braking into the third turn where the DRS can be activated. Overtaking is even possible in the slower part but it’s not for the fainthearted. The weather can make life complicated and sudden downpours have been known to turn the outcome of a race on its head. That could well be the case this weekend, as rain is forecast for every day. “
