Towards Bahrain
All Scuderia Ferrari fans are understandably curious to understand how the SF-24 single-seater will perform in the first Grand Prix of the new Formula 1 championship, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the 5.412 km Bahrain International Circuit located in Sakhir, Bahrain. The pre-season testing session, held last week also at the Sakhir circuit, provided encouraging indications for the Prancing Horse team, but only the race will clearly reveal the actual on-field values.
On the occasion of the presentation of the new motorsport season organized by the Italian TV channel Sky Sport, Marc Gené, who has been inside Ferrari for years and is a historic commentator for Sky Sport F1, also spoke about the expected performances of the Maranello car. According to the former Spanish driver, the SF-24 has started well, and efforts in Maranello have been focused mainly on addressing the issues that emerged in 2023. The only significant question mark is naturally represented by the opponents, whose potential is still largely unknown.
Tire degradation in focus
“How a car is designed is important. Obviously, you can then improve it during the year – explained Marc Gené – but it is indicative that the drivers have found a more suitable car and have given excellent feedback – both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz – both at Fiorano and here in Bahrain. There has been a lot of work on tire degradation, and there has been a significant step forward in this regard. Then there is also the fact that the car was not very easy to drive. This one, however, is much simpler. The only doubt is about the opponents because we don’t know where we stand.” – the Ferrari brand ambassador concluded his assessment of the Maranello team’s SF-24 car.
We will know the truth on Saturday afternoon, when the first round of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign will take place in Bahrain.
