Ferrari and Fred Vasseur want to forget Qatar
It is very difficult to predict the performance of the 2023 Ferrari Formula 1 car during various race weekends because, according to the drivers themselves, the SF-23 has proven to be quite inconsistent. However, if the Qatar Grand Prix provided an indication, it confirmed the difficulties of the car in fast corners. This aspect will reappear at the COTA, especially in the iconic snake section of the first sector, so the Scuderia might once again be at a disadvantage, at least when compared to Red Bull and McLaren.
Compared to Lusail, the COTA is a much more diverse track, offering the SF-23 opportunities to recover on the long central straight and in the slow corners ranging from 11 to 15, which require low-speed directional changes and will challenge the teams in tire management. For Team Principal Frederic Vasseur, Texas must be the opportunity to bounce back after a weekend marked by Charles Leclerc’s difficulties and technical problems on Carlos Sainz’s car.
Fred Vasseur’s comments
“We have a very demanding triple-header of Grand Prix ahead of us. It will be five races in three weeks, considering the Sprints as well. Therefore, the team and the drivers are called upon to maintain a very high level of concentration to maximize the opportunities that will arise,” the Frenchman began, also referring to the upcoming races in Mexico and Brazil.

“We are coming from a race in which we paid a high price for a reliability issue on Carlos’ SF-23, and we have worked to ensure that similar situations will not prevent us from fielding both cars at the start anymore. We need to return to the level we demonstrated in Singapore and Japan because only then can we optimize the performance of our package and put Charles and Carlos in a position to give their best.” – the French manager concluded.
