Driving away the crisis before the holidays
After the updates introduced in Spain at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, the Ferrari SF-23 showed good performance in Canada after a Qualifying session marked by errors and an excellent overall weekend in Austria, where Charles Leclerc finished in second position with the SF-23 being the second strongest car in Styria.
This positive momentum suffered two important setbacks in Great Britain at Silverstone and in Hungary at the Hungaroring. On paper, the appointment across the Channel was expected to be particularly challenging for Scuderia Ferrari due to the characteristics of the Northampton circuit, while the Hungaroring was seen as a more favorable ground for the SF-23. The results of the last two races were quite disappointing as Ferrari was not only less competitive than Mercedes but also McLaren. Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps doesn’t seem to be the right place for the Scuderia’s redemption, and the weather could make the weekend in the Ardennes even more complicated. However, the men in red are called upon to send a signal before the summer break, as emphasized by team principal Frederic Vasseur.
Frederic Vasseur’s preview of the next race:
“At the last two races, we weren’t able to make the most of the SF-23s potential, because we adopted too cautious an approach, as well as making a few too many mistakes. Therefore, our goal for the Belgian Grand Prix, at one of Formula 1’s truly great venues, is to get back to the path we had embarked on in Canada.” – the French manager pointed out.

“Charles and Carlos are two of the best drivers on the grid, but we have to give them the right tools with which to express their talent. Behind Red Bull, it’s all extremely close with five teams battling it out to the nearest thousandths at every race. We therefore have to study every last detail of the weekend from Friday free practice to the last lap on Sunday, because one tenth of a second can mean a difference of one or two places. We know what our technical weaknesses are and our rivals are not just killing time either. So, in Belgium and for the rest of the season, we must apply maximum concentration and be willing to take risks.” – Frederic Vasseur concluded, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website in view of the Belgian Grand Prix.
