The first “top guy” has been officially announced by Ferrari

“I have identified an area where reinforcements are necessary, but I won’t say which one.” Just a few weeks into his role as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari at the beginning of 2023, Frederic Vasseur had already hinted to the Spanish press that he knew exactly where to intervene in the technical market to strengthen the Scuderia’s team.

“We will make noise,” he had predicted, and that noise has indeed been resounding, especially concerning the driver market. In 2025, the most statistically successful driver, Lewis Hamilton, will join Charles Leclerc.

From Mercedes, there are figures who will be operational at Ferrari before the seven-time world champion. We are talking about Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio, who were announced yesterday and are set to start with the team from October 1. Loic Serra is the “top guy” Frederic Vasseur poached from Mercedes last summer, and he will play a crucial role in coordinating various departments, including Track Engineering, Aero Development, Aero Operations, and Vehicle Performance.

Recently, Adrian Newey has also entered the spotlight in the technical market, having announced his departure from Red Bull effective the first quarter of 2025. The aerodynamics wizard is expected to join Ferrari.

However, Frederic Vasseur emphasized a key principle regarding this scenario: “Adrian is a reference point for the entire Formula 1 world due to his experience and achievements; he probably has more experience than anyone else. That said, I believe much more in the group than in individuals. Part of the success always comes from the power of the collective, from everyone knowing and being convinced of their role in the system. I will always be the one to stress the importance of this thesis,” Fred Vasseur said in an interview with the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
