After the double disqualification suffered in China, Charles Leclerc and Ferrari hope that the work done during the break week will allow the SF-25 to be competitive in the Japanese GP weekend. The Scuderia, despite only a few weeks having passed since the start of the season, already finds itself having to chase down those who were supposed to be the pursuers at the beginning of the year.
Only seventeen points have been collected by the Prancing Horse after two races and a Sprint. Certainly not what the Tifosi expected after all the pre-season praise. Between the arrival of Lewis Hamilton and the public celebrations, the expectations for what was supposed to be Ferrari’s 2025 were quite different.
Charles Leclerc reveals Ferrari’s plan
For this reason, Ferrari worked hard during the break week, which allowed teams to take stock after the back-to-back between Australia and China. This was confirmed by Charles Leclerc himself on Thursday in Suzuka. “The priority is to make sure that what happened in Shanghai never happens again. Having two cars disqualified is certainly not pleasant. We tried to analyze where the problem came from to understand how to act in the future. We need to work to maximize the car’s potential, whatever it may be. If it’s capable of winning, we have to fight for it; otherwise, we must collect as many points as possible.”
The Monegasque then spoke about what has been done during these days off. “There has been a lot of work at Maranello. I spent a lot of time in the simulator to understand where to extract more performance. We are improving, but saying that we have the magic formula to immediately close the gap seen in China wouldn’t be right. The approach is correct, and we are heading in the right direction.”
Charles Leclerc then made a joke about what happened in Shanghai. “Sunday will be my 150th Grand Prix? You can bring me a cake, so maybe I’ll gain some weight,” Charles Leclerc said ironically.
