The FIA has decided to accommodate Ferrari and VCARB following the logistical challenges that delayed their arrival in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix. The closure of Doha and Dubai airports forced several teams, particularly the Italy-based Ferrari and VCARB, to reschedule flights in order to reach Australia in time for the season-opening 2026 Grand Prix. This situation prompted the FIA to make an important decision to ensure the smooth running of the race weekend.
FIA eases restrictions to help Ferrari recover lost time
Due to the travel disruptions in the Middle East, the Federation suspended the usual curfew rules, allowing mechanics to make up for lost time. This adjustment ensures that even the last team members to arrive in Melbourne have sufficient opportunity to prepare for the opening practice sessions of the year.

On this matter, veteran Australian F1 photographer Kym Illman provided an update via social media. “Ferrari and VCARB are working frantically to set up their garages after many team members arrived in Melbourne earlier today. Normally, they would have arrived one or two days in advance. Fortunately, the usual Wednesday evening curfew for the teams has been lifted. This allows the teams to complete all necessary preparations for the weekend.”
It’s worth noting that these delays are not expected to impact Ferrari’s performance during the first race of the season. The Scuderia will have time to finalize all preparations, ensuring they can hit the track ready to build on the positive performance shown during pre-season testing.
With just a few days until the 2026 Formula 1 season officially gets underway, the FIA’s decision to waive the Wednesday night curfew therefore represents a vital lifeline for Ferrari and VCARB. This pragmatic move ensures that the “invisible” battle of logistics doesn’t overshadow the highly anticipated technical debut of the new cars at Albert Park. While the mechanics may be facing a grueling race against the clock to prepare the garages, this special exemption guarantees that the Tifosi and the rest of the F1 world will see a full, competitive grid for the first practice sessions. The resilience shown by these teams in the face of global travel chaos sets a determined tone for what promises to be an unpredictable and thrilling new era of racing.
