Scuderia Ferrari has officially announced the renewal of a crucial technical partnership concerning a key component of the 2026 Power Unit. With the upcoming regulatory changes, the new Ferrari F1 cars are completely redesigned, not only in appearance but also under the skin: the engine will now be powered 50% by the internal combustion unit and 50% by the electric system, running on fully sustainable fuels. To maximize performance, Ferrari has strengthened its collaboration with a technical partner on a vital engine element.
Recently, Ferrari confirmed the return of a historic partner, BBS Japan, for the exclusive supply of wheels on the 2026 cars. BBS was linked with Maranello from 1992 to 2011, enabling more precise and sophisticated suspension design. This collaboration focuses on refining the area where the suspension, wheel, brakes, and tire interface, with the lightweight magnesium choice contributing to an overall weight reduction compared to aluminum. Following this, Ferrari has now extended another key technical partnership that will continue to play a major role in their 2026 Power Unit development.
Ferrari and Garrett Motion continue their long-standing collaboration
According to Ferrari’s official statement on their website: “Scuderia Ferrari HP is pleased to announce the renewal of its historic technical partnership with Garrett Motion, which will continue into the next F1 regulatory cycle starting this year. Under the new agreement, Garrett Motion will continue to develop and supply the next-generation turbo system for Ferrari’s Power Unit, supporting the team as the championship enters a new era defined by a revised hybrid architecture and an increasingly central role for electrification.”
The Ferrari-Garrett partnership began in 2014 with the introduction of the turbo-hybrid era in Formula 1 and has since evolved into a close technical cooperation. Over more than a decade, Garrett’s expertise in forced induction technology has been instrumental in developing Power Units that meet the stringent efficiency, energy recovery, and responsiveness requirements of modern F1. Commenting on the renewal, Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur said: “Garrett has been a trusted partner for many years. Their technology has consistently supported us in achieving our goals. As we prepare for the technical challenges of the 2026 regulations, we are delighted to continue this collaboration and rely on Garrett’s experience for the next chapter of Formula 1.”
This renewal ensures that Ferrari enters the 2026 season with a proven technical foundation, combining advanced hybrid engineering with decades of expertise in turbocharging. With Garrett Motion’s continued support, Maranello aims to maximize the performance potential of the SF-26 and remain competitive in the evolving landscape of F1 powertrain technology.
