Ferrari and BBS Japan announce multi-year technical partnership for 2026 and beyond. Maranello and BBS Japan: a new chapter in Formula 1 wheel development.

Ferrari begins its future with a strong link to Japan, announcing a key agreement with a renowned wheel supplier. BBS Japan has signed a multi-year technical partnership with Ferrari, focusing on close collaboration for the development of wheels specifically for Formula 1. Even in the current season, the SF-26 runs on forged magnesium wheels produced by BBS, confirming the ongoing technical relationship between the two companies.

From 2022 to 2025, BBS Japan served as the exclusive wheel supplier for the entire Formula 1 grid. With the new 2026 technical regulations, teams are once again free to choose their wheel manufacturer. In this new context, Ferrari has decided to continue its journey with BBS, elevating the relationship from standard supply to a dedicated technical partnership.

The connection between Maranello and BBS dates back to 1992, when the F92A made its debut with wheels from the Japanese company. Since then, BBS has been part of Ferrari’s Formula 1 journey, a collaboration that has endured over three decades, spanning periods of major success and continuing uninterrupted to the present day.

BBS wheels for Formula 1 are entirely produced at the Takaoka plant in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. Here, magnesium wheels are crafted using advanced design, forging, and quality control technologies. After production, the wheels are shipped to Europe for final finishing before being delivered to the teams. These components are custom-made to meet the extreme demands of Formula 1, distinct from the brand’s commercial products.

Statements from Koji Nitta, President of BBS Japan

Koji Nitta expressed great satisfaction with the agreement, saying: “We are honored to start a new technical partnership with Ferrari.” He added: “The relationship between our two companies has been built over more than 30 years, and it is very meaningful for us to once again take on the challenge together at the highest level. Ferrari’s passion, fighting spirit, and relentless pursuit of excellence perfectly align with the values of BBS.” He concluded: “Through the development of forged wheels, we will strongly support Ferrari in writing the next chapter of its history.”

In the press release, BBS Japan reiterated its commitment, stating: “As a technical partner, BBS Japan will continue to work closely with Ferrari, advancing the development of forged magnesium wheels. With cutting-edge wheel design technologies, state-of-the-art forging techniques, and rigorous quality control, we will deliver performance at the highest level.”

This announcement represents a vital strategic choice for Ferrari. By securing a long-term deal with a trusted historical partner ahead of the 2026 rule changes, the team ensures it has one of the most critical unsprung weight components optimized for the challenges of the upcoming world championships. As the grid prepares for a level playing field in 2026, this renewed Japanese alliance provides Ferrari with a proven foundation of quality and technical reliability that could prove decisive in the hunt for the title.
