Anticipation is building ahead of the next showdown with Mercedes, and Ferrari has no intention of slowing down. “With the possibility of modifying the engine, who knows if it won’t become easier for us to challenge the Silver Arrows on every type of track,” Piero Ferrari noted, openly admitting that appetite comes with eating and that settling for occasional victories is simply not in Ferrari’s DNA.
The Maranello-based squad finally broke its winless streak in Barcelona—a drought that had persisted since the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix—and is now hunting for confirmation of that form in Austria, a circuit where Andrea Kimi Antonelli expects Mercedes to be particularly sharp.
While the FIA has not yet officially published the verdicts from the first tranche of the ADUO regulations, which were communicated to the teams during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, every manufacturer permitted to modify their engine is already hard at work upgrading their power units.
Ferrari is certainly no exception. According to a report by the motorsport outlet AutoRacer.it, the Scuderia’s objective is to deploy the first of their two available development tokens as early as the Austrian Grand Prix. The upgraded Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)—the third of the season following the first two of the same baseline specification used to tackle the opening seven rounds of the calendar—is expected to deliver an extra 5 horsepower. This serves as an initial step ahead of the second token, which on paper is projected to yield a much more significant performance impact. Furthermore, technical partner Shell has updated its fuel blend, which will also be ready for utilization on track.
In summary, Ferrari’s proactive approach to utilizing its first ADUO token in Austria highlights the Maranello team’s relentless push to sustain its competitive momentum. By pairing a five-horsepower boost with specialized Shell fuel refinements, the Scuderia aims to deliver a stronger performance package to take the fight directly to Mercedes on the high-speed Spielberg circuit.
