This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans ended for the third consecutive time with a Ferrari victory, but in the 93rd edition of the world’s most famous endurance race, Robert Kubica’s dream finally came true. He crossed the finish line first driving the AF Corse #83 shared with Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson. The former Polish Formula 1 driver, after nearly achieving the feat in 2021 in the LMP2 class (when his car stopped on the last lap), took his revenge against fate, especially after what happened in early 2011.
At the Rally Ronde di Andora, Robert Kubica suffered a very serious accident that forced him into a long rehabilitation before returning to competition. The injuries prevented him from continuing his official Formula 1 career (except for a brief stint at Williams), where he was supposed to debut with Ferrari in 2012 as Fernando Alonso’s teammate.
Among the various motorsport personalities who congratulated Robert Kubica on his Le Mans victory, Fernando Alonso expressed his happiness to ESPN, praising the man who won the 2008 Canadian GP in F1: “I’m very happy for him,” he said. “We talked several times about how special that race is and he deserves to experience it. Robert Kubica is a legend in our sport, and even more so after winning at Le Mans. Everyone knows how much he suffered from the accident and everything that followed. I think this is a very happy day for motorsport and I’m very proud of him.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
