Fernando Alonso claims that he does not care about his former team Scuderia Ferrari and says it is wrong to make a judgement on Toro Rosso’s performance with Honda engines.
Two-time champion Fernando Alonso began the 18th Formula 1 campaign of his racing career at last month’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. And the McLaren man is currently competing with his fourth team in the sport, having driven for Minardi, Renault and Ferrari as well.
Fernando Alonso secured a sixth place finish at last Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix having fought his way through the field after starting in 13th. The Spaniard was asked about Toro Rosso following the race in Shanghai and he took it as an opportunity to vent about being interviewed about his old team Scuderia Ferrari too: “[Bahrain] was a very nice weekend for them,” said Fernando Alonso when asked about Toro Rosso’s performance with the Honda engines McLaren opted against using this year.
“To be honest, after 18 years in Formula 1, to answer after one good qualifying or one good result from any team makes no sense. I have been answering about Ferrari in 2015 and 2016. After I left Ferrari, every win, every podium they were achieving, you asked me about if I regretted when I left Ferrari. After four years Mercedes keep winning and they have four championships and now you are not asking me about Ferrari, you’ve changed for Toro Rosso. Or Renault, in 2005 and 2006 I won two championships with them and now they are competitive again. I don’t care so much about other teams. It’s just funny how people get excited about the ex-teams when they are OK. They ask me and I don’t care too much.” – Fernando Alonso concluded.
The Spanish driver will be looking to secure his first podium of the season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.
