F1 | Will Miami GP weekend be held at night in 2024 Formula 1 season?. Will Miami GP be held at night in 2024?.

The president of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, Tyler Epp, has talked about the possibility of making the 2024 edition a night race, joining the likes of Singapore, Las Vegas, Losail, and Jeddah, as there are already four races on the calendar currently held under artificial lights. Adding a fifth night race, especially with the time zone difference in the United States, would create some challenges in the immediate future.

Will the Miami GP switch to a night race in 2024? President Tyler Epp’s plans

“We’ve talked about, ‘Can we do it? Does it make sense?'” said Tyler Epp. “We didn’t get too far into it because at some point, you ask yourself, why are you doing this? Let’s make sure there’s a justifiable reason. It’s very unlikely we’ll do it for 2024. We’ll keep evaluating.”

As reported by The Atlantic, Tyler Epp has sought advice from the promoters of the Singapore GP and the future Las Vegas Grand Prix on how to optimize a night race and find the ideal time to hold the event.

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the experience,” Tyler Epp continued. “If we get to the point where Formula 1 says, ‘This really works for us from a TV broadcast standpoint,’ we’ll certainly consider it.” – he added – “Miami is our brand, and we’re trying to make it stand out with the circuit. Las Vegas will also be a night race. Singapore definitely has its place on the calendar. I can’t tell you what their decisions are and why they made them. As for us, we’re committed to being in Miami, both day and night.”

One of the main issues with making the race a night event in 2024 is that the track currently lacks the necessary infrastructure for artificial lighting. Additionally, finding the right time to maximize global viewership is not easy, as having the event at a late hour in Miami would mean having a race in Europe in the middle of the night.

Finally, Tyler Epp mentioned the possibility of hosting a Sprint weekend at the American circuit: “We’re always interested in a Sprint race. But I would also say that qualifying has been really valuable.”

“For us, the Formula 1 qualifying experience has great value. Many of our fans have given us excellent feedback on traditional qualifying. We’re here to give our support. If we have the opportunity to host a Sprint race at some point, we’d be happy to do it. But it’s not something we’re actively pursuing.” – The president of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix concluded.
