F1 | The Frecce Tricolori return for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza: first flyovers above the city
For the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Frecce Tricolori will once again fly over the main straight just before the start of Sunday’s race. After their absence in the 2024 edition, this year the famous aerobatic squadron will return to paint the skies of Monza with the colors of the Italian flag ahead of the Grand Prix. Meanwhile, on Monday, aircraft from the Italian Air Force carried out the first reconnaissance flights over the skies of the Lombardy city.
The Italian Grand Prix is just around the corner and the week of celebrations in Monza has already begun. On Monday afternoon one of the Frecce Tricolori jets crossed the skies in a preparatory flyover, anticipating the highly awaited return scheduled for Sunday, September 7, just minutes before the start of the race.
In 2024, the aerobatic patrol was on a tour of the United States during the Grand Prix weekend, leaving Monza’s skies unusually empty on race day. This year, however, everything is ready for their long-awaited comeback. The nine MB-339 PAN aircraft of the Italian Air Force will once again color the circuit sky with the Tricolore, following the long-standing tradition.
The spectacular flyover will take place only a few minutes before the race start, set for 15:00 local time, most likely between 14:45 and 14:50. It will serve as the official prelude to the much-anticipated on-track action. All that remains is to wait for the right moment and look up to the sky from the streets of Monza, even for those who will not be inside the Autodromo.
