Scuderia Ferrari left Montreal with moderate optimism after Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz achieved fourth and fifth places respectively, staging solid comebacks from the back of the grid at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal. The two red cars showed a decent race pace and were able to make one less pit stop than their rivals, making up for the disappointing qualifying session that saw them starting from the tenth and eleventh positions due to a series of unfortunate circumstances.
From Maranello, there is talk of light at the end of the tunnel, with team principal Frederic Vasseur going as far as expressing optimism ahead of the upcoming Austrian race weekend (June 30th – July 2nd), which will feature the Sprint on Saturday and the traditional race on Sunday. The French manager explained that he sees great room for improvement for the SF-23, and indeed, new updates will be installed on the car in Spielberg.
Buzz in the Formula 1 technical market
As is known, Scuderia Ferrari is also active in the Formula 1 technical market, with the precise aim of strengthening the organization of the Racing Division in Maranello, which has experienced more than one departure in recent times. After the departure of David Sanchez – who will join McLaren – and the ongoing saga surrounding Laurent Mekies – who has signed with AlphaTauri but is still working at the Ferrari pit wall for now – there have been repeated rumors of new arrivals from Red Bull.
Attempts to recruit Pierre Waché and Enrico Balbo seem to have been rejected by the Anglo-Austrian team, so fans of the Prancing Horse are eager to know who will reinforce the technical staff in Maranello. It won’t take long, judging by the words spoken by Frederic Vasseur in an interview for Sky UK, during the Montreal race weekend:

“We chose not to make noise, but we will make noise because there will be impactful arrivals. You will soon know who will arrive,” he explained for the British television microphones, commenting on the decision not to unnecessarily create a commotion about Ferrari’s recruitment campaign.
