Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto recently confirmed that the Maranello team are not planning to bring any huge upgrades for the F1-75 car in the second pre-season testing session, which takes place next week at the Bahrain International Circuit, as opposed to what Red Bull and Mercedes are expected to.
The Maranello team looked to have a strong showing at the first pre-2022 testing session which was held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and was able to complete more laps than any other team during the three days of testing in Spain.
Mattia Binotto confirmed that Scuderia Ferrari intend to continue to “optimise” the performance of the F1-75 car next week and that he is confident the team will be able to extract a lot more performance from the car without any major updates.

“It will not be much different compared to what we’ve got” – the Ferrari boss explained – “I think that the first step for us will be to optimise what we have. We are still far from the best performance, not only because we are running high fuel and not the best engine mode, but simply because there is a lot to exploit more from the car itself. We are more focused on that one [extracting more pace], not only in terms of set-up engineering, but as well in terms of driving style and the drivers themselves. So let’s wait, let’s see what the others will bring. Certainly as Ferrari we are always concerned on upgrades of our competitors. And I’m pretty sure they will be very, very strong by then.” – he added.
The decision made by Scuderia Ferrari not to run any important upgrades in the final test ahead of the first round of the 2022 Formula 1 season has raised interest amongst some, including F1 technical expert Sam Collins who explained the Italian side’s approach: “There’s only one team that have told me that they’re not going to be bringing big updates to Bahrain, and that’s Ferrari, which in itself is quite interesting. So I think I would let people judge from that what they like, but, for me, it could be a really good day for the red team.” – he explained.
The final pre-season testing session in Bahrain will take place little over a week before the new Formula 1 championship begins, with the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled to be held on 18-20 March.
