Scuderia Ferrari have extended the contract of acclaimed Formula One car designer Rory Byrne for a further three seasons, according to a recent report from RacingNews365.com.
Rory Byrne, who worked for Toleman and Benetton before joining the Maranello team in 1996, is best known for playing an key role in building the Formula 1 challengers which helped Michael Schumacher to win five consecutive World Championships between 2000 and 2004, when the Italian side also won six consecutive Constructors’ Championships.

The South African engineer also designed Michael Schumacher’s previous title-winning cars at Benetton in 1994 and 1995. After the 2006 Formula 1 campaign Rory Byrne retired from his position at Ferrari, but returned to assist with the development of the team’s 2014 F1 car in an advisory role and will not continue his advisor position for an additional three seasons.
Scuderia Ferrari’s chances for the new championship have been much discussed in the last few days, with several pundits, drivers and team bosses suggesting that Ferrari will challenge for the top this year. However, Team Principal Mattia Binotto has played down the idea that the Maranello team are ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull, while confirming that he was pleased with the initial data gathered from the pre-season testing session in Spain.
