As the 2025 F1 summer break draws to a close, fans are curious to know how the drivers have spent their weeks off. The mid-season hiatus offered the perfect opportunity for all twenty drivers to recharge after a hectic first half of the season. However, the downtime is nearly over, with Formula 1 returning to the track from August 29 to 31 for the Dutch Grand Prix.
For both the drivers and their teams, this break has been an invaluable chance to rest, recover, and prepare to return at 100% performance.
Relaxing by the sea
After months of racing around the globe, many drivers chose to escape to crystal-clear waters and sunny shores. George Russell, Alex Albon, and Charles Leclerc spent time aboard their luxury yachts with their partners and close friends, successfully combining moments of relaxation with quality time spent with loved ones.
Similarly, Esteban Ocon and Andrea Kimi Antonelli opted for seaside holidays with family and friends. Even Oscar Piastri chose the sea, and after returning to land, celebrated with his team in classic Australian style. The 24-year-old spent time with his squad around a barbecue before revealing an exciting announcement for fans.
In the spotlight
Several drivers stayed in the public eye during the summer break for various reasons. Oscar Piastri thrilled his fans with an announcement: starting in 2026, he will have his own grandstand at the Australian Grand Prix. In the video revealing the news, he explained: “It feels pretty surreal. Racing at home is still strange. It’s really amazing to race at home, and it still feels like when I was a little kid. Just hearing the cars on track, and the fact that I’m in one of them… you know what I mean. So yes, very exciting. Having my own grandstand will be incredible.”
Pierre Gasly kept his fans guessing with a cryptic post hinting at a potential new brand launch, generating significant interest. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton and his faithful dog Roscoe featured in a special for Vogue, keeping fans entertained off-track.
Chasing adrenaline
It’s in the nature of F1 drivers to crave the thrill of speed, and many found ways to chase adrenaline even while on vacation. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris led the way. The four-time world champion tried eFoiling along the Sardinian coast and even attempted a daring overtake on a golf cart, startling his partner in the process.
McLaren’s Lando Norris couldn’t fully disconnect from racing either, taking part in the Esports World Cup. Gabriel Bortoleto experienced high-speed thrills in a stock car, while Oliver Bearman celebrated his brother Thomas’s F4 birthday behind the wheel.
Staying in training
Maintaining fitness remained a priority throughout the break. Carlos Sainz, vacationing with his family, showcased his daring side by diving from his boat to a depth of 11 meters. Charles Leclerc focused on padel training, while his teammate worked on weightlifting. Pierre Gasly balanced golf with a rigorous training routine including running, cycling, and gym sessions.
George Russell also made sure to maintain his fitness, combining workouts during his holidays with additional training upon returning home. The drivers’ commitment to staying in top physical condition ensures they’ll hit the track ready to perform at their best.
