Located in the amazing Styrian mountains, the Red Bull Ring has provided some of the most memorable Grands Prix in recent memory. The circuit layout could seem simple on paper or at first sight – it has the fewest corners of any circuit on the calendar – but is deceptively tricky.
The race circuit was founded as Österreichring (which means Austrian Circuit) and hosted the Austrian Grand Prix for 18 consecutive championships, from 1970 to 1987. It was later shortened, rebuilt and renamed the A1-Ring (A Eins-Ring). It hosted the Austrian Grand Prix again between1997 and 2003.

Facts:
This will be the 19th race held on the shorter layout of the Spielberg circuit since F1 returned when it was re-named as the A1-Ring back in 1997. That means that after the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, the current layout of the Red Bull Ring will have hosted more rounds of the World Championship than the original Österreichring layout.
Victory for Max Verstappen at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix would see him extend his record of most F1 wins in Austria to five. A win for Verstappen would also see him usurp Alain Prost as the driver to have won the Austrian Grand Prix on the most occasions.
Should Scdueria Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc win the race this season, he would equal the record for most consecutive wins at the venue. No other man has won more than two successive events at this venue.
McLaren and Mercedes are currently tied for the most Formula 1 wins at the Red Bull Ring, with six apiece. Either team could set a new outright record at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, while Ferrari could equal the existing record.
Former Ferrari man Niki Lauda stands as the sole Austrian driver to triumph in his home race, achieving this feat in 1984, which coincided with his third and final World Championship victory. The Austrian also secured three pole positions at the Österreichring.
Max Verstappen etched his name into the annals of history in 2021 by establishing a new record for the highest number of Formula 1 victories in Austria. The Dutch driver clinched his fourth triumph in the country during the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix. Prior to Verstappen’s achievement, Alain Prost held the previous record with three wins in Austria, with his last Austrian Grand Prix victory occurring in 1986.
Despite boasting the swiftest lap time on the current calendar, with the pole position time from three years ago clocking in at just under 63 seconds, the Red Bull Ring ranks as merely the fourth shortest circuit on the schedule. It falls behind the likes of Monaco, Mexico, and Brazil in terms of track length.
