The Portuguese race track made it’s Formula 1 debut last year and made quite the impression on fans!
The Algarve International Circuit, which was constructed in 2008, had been awarded a Grade 1 Licence back in April of last year which allowed it to host F1 races.
It’s no stranger to motorsport events though, making its calendar debut with MotoGP in 2020 as well as previously being used in the World Touring Car Championship and the A1 Grand Prix to name a few.
The track won widespread praise from the grid for its layout and design, although low grip conditions made for a difficult start to the race, allowing Carlos Sainz to briefly lead for McLaren last year.
Join us later in the afternoon for the latest updates and results from the Portimao Circuit, as the qualifying session for the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix is about to get underway, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the SF21 ready to challenge McLaren for the best possible place on the grid ahead of tomorrow’s race.
