New and confirmed choices
In the latter part of the 2023 season, Formula 1 will return to the American continent for three consecutive race weekends, from October 20 to November 5. These include the United States Grand Prix, the Mexico City Grand Prix, and the São Paulo Grand Prix. Pirelli has informed the teams of the available tire compounds for these events. There are two confirmed choices and one novelty for this triple-header.

The confirmed tire compounds will be used at the Austin and Interlagos circuits as compared to 2022. For these races, Pirelli has selected the C2 as the P Zero White hard, the C3 as the P Zero Yellow medium, and the C4 as the P Zero Red soft. However, for the race in the Mexican capital, Pirelli has decided to go one step softer compared to the previous year. The tire selection will consist of the C3 as the P Zero White hard, the C4 as the P Zero Yellow medium, and the C5 as the P Zero Red soft.

Sprint format alert
Additionally, a new version of the C4 tire will be tested at the circuit named after the Rodriguez brothers, Pedro and Ricardo, with the aim of introducing it in 2024. The testing procedures will be the same as those followed last Friday at Suzuka when a new version of the C2 was tested. The teams will receive two additional sets of this experimental compound for each driver, and they can use them at their discretion during the two hours of Friday’s practice sessions.

The race weekends for the other two American races will feature the Sprint format, which includes one hour of free practice on Friday and the qualifying session for the Grand Prix. On Saturday, there will be the Sprint Shootout to determine the starting grid for the afternoon’s shorter race, and on Sunday, the main event, the Grand Prix. The Circuit of the Americas in Austin will debut this alternative format, while Interlagos is already familiar to this format, having hosted the Sprint race in 2021 and 2022.
