Oscar Piastri could be looking at a future away from McLaren, as fresh rumors from the Formula 1 paddock suggest that another team has shown strong interest in the Australian driver. Piastri is currently fighting alongside his teammate for the Formula 1 World Championship title, but behind the scenes, whispers indicate he may be increasingly dissatisfied within the Woking-based team. According to reports, a team has already expressed interest in car number 81 — and Charles Leclerc’s name has also surfaced in the same conversation.
The Monegasque driver has repeatedly reaffirmed his loyalty to Ferrari, publicly stating several times that his dream remains to win the World Championship with the Maranello-based Scuderia. Charles Leclerc’s response came after rumors had emerged suggesting a possible departure from Ferrari, potentially starting from the 2027 season.
The frustration of Oscar Piastri
Ralf Schumacher, speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, addressed the situation between Piastri and McLaren, commenting on the growing tension between the two: “From my point of view, if a driver loses confidence in the team, that’s a clear sign something needs to change — and perhaps the driver might even need to consider switching teams,” said the former Formula 1 driver.
According to Ralf Schumacher, there may already be a clear opportunity for the young Australian: “The rumors are quite specific. Aston Martin is urgently looking for a change after 2026, and they’re naturally seeking two strong drivers,” he explained. “One candidate is Oscar Piastri, and I can say with certainty that conversations are already taking place. The other possible option would be Charles Leclerc, who could also be in the picture if he decides to move.”
Ralf Schumacher also suggested that Oscar Piastri might be considering leaving McLaren due to growing discomfort over perceived favoritism toward Lando Norris. He pointed to the increasing tension caused by online criticism and internal debates within the team. The 2027 driver market is expected to be particularly active, with many major decisions likely to depend on next season’s performances.
For now, any change would be a major gamble. Both Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc are part of top teams, and with the 2026 regulation overhaul approaching, making a move too early could be risky. Still, as the rumors continue to circulate, it’s clear that both names — Piastri and Leclerc — could become central figures in the next phase of the Formula 1 driver market.
