Friday’s running largely unfolded as many had anticipated, with Ferrari emerging as the team to beat. Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets in the opening practice session, finishing ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. However, the seven-time world champion struck back in FP2, edging out the Monegasque driver on his home streets to secure the fastest time of the day.
On both occasions, Max Verstappen was Ferrari’s closest challenger, while Mercedes remained firmly in the mix with George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The two Mercedes drivers traded positions between the two sessions, showing encouraging pace but still lacking the final few tenths needed to challenge the Ferraris consistently.
McLaren, meanwhile, endured a more difficult Friday than expected and will be hoping to make significant progress before qualifying. Nevertheless, there is still time for teams to unlock additional performance, experiment with final setup changes and potentially reshape the competitive picture before the battle for pole position begins.
Will Ferrari maintain its advantage? Can Max Verstappen, Mercedes or McLaren close the gap? Join us for minute-by-minute updates and live commentary throughout FP3 as we follow every development from the 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
