Verstappen from pole: Monza starting grid
Saturday’s Q3 session crowned the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen. The Red Bull superstar, leaving the competition behind, set the fastest lap in Formula 1 history, breaking Lewis Hamilton’s Monza track record that had stood since 2020. With an astonishing average speed of 264.681 km/h, the Dutchman stopped the clock at 1:18.792, ahead of the two McLarens driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Next to the Hasselt driver will be the papaya-colored McLaren #4, driven by Lando Norris. The British driver, recovering from a painful retirement in Zandvoort, is called upon to win in order to reopen the championship, currently appearing to be in the hands of his teammate Oscar Piastri. The Australian on McLaren #81 will start just behind in third position. Completing the second row is Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque Ferrari driver will start the race from the same grid spot as in 2024. Last year he managed to win with impeccable tyre management, and while imagining a similar outcome this year requires more optimism, dreaming is never forbidden.
