Lewis Hamilton surprises everyone with cryptic advice for Oscar Piastri in the World Championship battle
Lewis Hamilton has once again captured the spotlight, but this time not for his performance on track. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion sent a cryptic message to Oscar Piastri, who is currently engaged in a fierce internal title fight at McLaren against teammate Lando Norris.
The young Australian currently leads the Drivers’ Championship standings with a 22-point advantage over Lando Norris, but the tension inside the Woking-based team is palpable. While McLaren continues to present itself as a united front, several recent incidents have revealed cracks in the relationship between its two drivers.
It all started with their contact in Canada, which Norris later described as “my fault.” Then came the Monza controversy, where Piastri was asked to give back a position after a slow pit stop had disadvantaged Norris. But the most visible flashpoint arrived in Singapore, when Norris decisively overtook Piastri in the opening laps, taking third place and helping McLaren secure crucial points in the Constructors’ Championship fight.
Lewis Hamilton’s advice
Lewis Hamilton, who throughout his career has faced intense internal battles — from Nico Rosberg to Valtteri Bottas — knows perfectly well what it means to manage a title fight against one’s own teammate. When asked about the Piastri–Norris rivalry by the media, Hamilton jokingly remarked, “We’re competitors, so I wouldn’t give him any advice.”
However, with a more serious yet teasing tone, he added what many interpreted as an ironic but strategic warning aimed at the young Australian driver: “Don’t give up any position, that’s what I’d say.”
That short statement, if taken literally, could further test the delicate balance within the McLaren garage. With several races still to go and the world title still undecided, the internal rivalry between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri promises to deliver fireworks. And Lewis Hamilton, watching closely from the outside as an experienced observer, seems to know exactly where to look as the battle inside McLaren intensifies.
