Lewis Hamilton sells his supercars: from Ferraris to Shelby, the jewels of his collection
On the eve of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, the British driver revealed that he has sold every supercar from his personal collection. Here are some of the models that the seven-time world champion decided to part with.
Outside of Formula 1, cars do not hold a special place in Lewis Hamilton’s life. The seven-time champion himself confirmed this — despite his known passion for two wheels, as shown when he arrived at Monza on a Ducati Panigale V4 with a tricolor livery. Speaking with the media in Baku, where F1 hosted its seventeenth round, Lewis Hamilton was asked if he intended to purchase a Ferrari F80, the latest hypercar from Maranello. The Briton gave a blunt answer: “I don’t have cars anymore. I sold all my supercars. Today I dedicate more time to art.” A surprising statement, considering the stunning collection he once owned. Below are some of the machines Hamilton has driven and cherished in recent years.
Ferrari LaFerrari
Lewis Hamilton’s love for Ferrari models dates back long before his Formula 1 move to the Scuderia. Among his favorites was the Ferrari LaFerrari, of which he owned two versions: a coupé and the open-top Aperta. It was the first hypercar from Maranello to feature a hybrid powertrain. The naturally aspirated V12 alone produced 800 hp, while the electric unit pushed the total output to 963 hp. Performance figures were remarkable: 0–100 km/h in under three seconds, 0–200 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h.
Shelby Cobra 427
One of the rarest gems in Lewis Hamilton’s collection was a Shelby Cobra 427, the legendary roadster powered by a 7.0-liter Ford V8 producing more than 425 hp. Hamilton bought a 1966 example in April 2012, and Carroll Shelby himself confirmed it was an original model. Following that, Hamilton purchased a second Cobra from 1967 to preserve the first car in original condition while the later model was repainted black.
Pagani Zonda LH
The British champion also owned a bespoke Pagani Zonda, built in Emilia Romagna and customized entirely to his taste. Nicknamed “Zonda LH,” this unique hypercar featured a striking purple body, the full “760” aero package, a manual gearbox — specifically requested by Lewis Hamilton — and fully personalized interiors. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter Mercedes-AMG V12 delivering 700 hp.
McLaren F1
While the Zonda remained in his Monaco garage, Hamilton also kept a McLaren F1 in his Malibu residence in California. Purchased in 2017 at a Bonhams auction, this iconic hypercar was the crown jewel of his collection. Lewis Hamilton had a personal connection with the model: when he joined McLaren, Ron Dennis once told him that winning three consecutive world titles would earn him a prototype of the legendary F1. That never materialized, so Hamilton bought one himself. His car was chassis number 44, the very first McLaren F1 imported into the United States.
McLaren P1
Lewis Hamilton also owned a McLaren P1, a car that reflected his roots with the team where he made his Formula 1 debut. The P1 combined a twin-turbo V8 with an electric unit for a total of 916 hp. It sprinted from 0–100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and could reach a top speed of 350 km/h.
Mercedes-AMG GT63
During his long relationship with Mercedes, the Briton purchased several of their models. One of his favorites was reportedly the Mercedes-AMG GT63 4Matic+, a coupé equipped with a V8 engine producing 585 hp. The car accelerated from 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reached 315 km/h at full speed.
Mercedes-AMG SLS Black Series
Another Mercedes that once belonged to Lewis Hamilton was the SLS AMG Black Series. Produced in limited numbers, it featured a V8 delivering 631 hp. It was the most extreme version of the SLS, carrying the brand’s iconic gullwing doors and fitted with aggressive aerodynamic components designed for track performance. Thanks to the additional downforce, it maintained high cornering efficiency while still achieving a top speed of 315 km/h.
