Lewis Hamilton has addressed Formula 1 fans regarding the possibility of a sequel to F1: The Movie, the highly anticipated motorsport film starring Brad Pitt and directed by Joseph Kosinski. In recent years, several Grand Prix weekends across the world have served not only as race venues but also as filming locations for this ambitious Hollywood project, blending the glamour of cinema with the intensity of Formula 1 racing.
The film, which took several years to complete, followed an unprecedented production journey, capturing scenes directly on location during actual F1 race weekends. With the movie finally completed and released, fans have started to wonder if there might be a follow-up story in the works, especially given the growing interest and curiosity around the project. Lewis Hamilton, who was heavily involved in the film as a producer and creative consultant, responded to these speculations, setting the record straight.
The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion made it clear that the team is not currently considering a sequel. “We’ve just finished the film, so I think the last thing we want right now is to jump into a sequel,” Lewis Hamilton explained. He emphasized how demanding the production process was, pointing out that it required over four years of continuous effort. The film crew had to travel extensively, shifting from continent to continent to follow the F1 calendar and shoot scenes in real time, alongside the actual races.
Lewis Hamilton stressed the importance of taking a break after such a long and exhausting project, adding: “There’s also a need to let things rest for a bit—let’s just enjoy what we’ve created.” According to the British driver, rushing into a second installment could lead to a disappointing result, especially since sequels often struggle to match the success of the original.
“The majority of sequels turn out to be much worse, so there’s no reason to rush it,” he said. “If we were to make a sequel, I’d say we should take our time—really, really take the time needed to make it even better.”
Demonstrating how deeply he applies the Formula 1 mindset to other fields, Lewis Hamilton also revealed that he encouraged the production team to conduct a full debriefing after finishing the project. “I don’t know if they do this in the movie industry, but I asked them to review everything—to look back at what we’ve done, what we could have done better,” he said. “That’s something I’ve obviously learned from F1.”
While fans remain hopeful to see more of Brad Pitt’s character and the cinematic version of the Formula 1 world, Hamilton’s remarks suggest that any potential sequel will not be coming in the near future. For now, the focus remains on enjoying the finished film and reflecting on the remarkable collaboration between Hollywood and the world of Grand Prix racing.
