Despite qualifying only in fifth position on the starting grid, Lewis Hamilton still dreams of reaching the podium at the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, which will take place at Silverstone—a venue that holds deep personal significance for the seven-time World Champion.
Even though the British driver failed to secure a spot on the front row for his home Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton remains focused on the positive aspects of his performance in qualifying. The Silverstone circuit continues to be a special place for him, and this year he will race it as a Ferrari driver for the first time. Despite the challenges, the British icon is still determined to aim for the podium in front of his home crowd.
Hamilton admitted to feeling more comfortable behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF-25 during Saturday’s sessions, but some small mistakes during the final lap of Q3 ultimately prevented him from qualifying higher. He will start the race from the third row in fifth place.
Lewis Hamilton’s reflections after qualifying
After showing strong pace early in the weekend—topping the timesheets in the first Free Practice session—Lewis Hamilton pushed hard during qualifying. He even managed to set the fastest lap time in Q2, raising hopes for a front-row start. During the initial runs in Q3, Hamilton had climbed to second place, but in the final attempt, he was unable to improve his lap time and ultimately finished fifth.
Reflecting on that final flying lap, the British driver said: “The lap was pretty good overall. I lost a bit of time in the last corner, which probably cost me a front-row start or at least third position.”
“I think we were right on the edge. Aside from that, I extracted everything I could from the car,” Lewis Hamilton added, showing satisfaction with the effort despite the outcome.
When asked about the handling of the Ferrari SF-25 during qualifying, Lewis Hamilton acknowledged that the feeling inside the car had improved: “I definitely feel much better in the car this weekend,” he stated. “This track is just incredible, and the crowd has been amazing. But we needed a bit more—like one more tenth of performance from the car—just to close the gap to the guys in front.”
A special date at Silverstone—and a dream still alive
Although he won’t start from the front row, Lewis Hamilton is still holding onto the dream of securing his first podium finish with Scuderia Ferrari—at his home Grand Prix, no less. Coincidentally, today’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone will be held on July 6, a date that holds historical meaning for Lewis Hamilton. It was on this exact date that he claimed his first-ever British GP victory with McLaren, and years later, another triumph at Silverstone with Mercedes.
Now, in 2025, the British legend hopes to complete the trifecta by achieving a podium or even a victory with Ferrari on this symbolic day.
“Of course, I’ll be dreaming about the podium tonight and I’ll try to get it tomorrow,” Hamilton said with determination. “I think the weather will be interesting. I imagine it will probably stay dry for the race, but it would be nice if it drizzled… or—yeah, we’ll see,” he concluded, leaving the door open for surprises in what promises to be an unpredictable and thrilling race.
