That the 2025 Formula 1 season is not unfolding according to Ferrari’s expectations has become painfully obvious. The reality is difficult to ignore: barring an extraordinary and completely unexpected turnaround, this will not be the year in which the Scuderia Ferrari from Maranello finally returns to winning a Formula 1 World Championship.
Unfortunately for the passionate supporters of the Prancing Horse, this cycle of high hopes followed by disappointment on track has become a recurring theme, repeating itself for almost two decades now. Each new campaign seems to start with optimism, only for reality to bring that momentum crashing down by midseason.
Yet, in recent weeks, something unprecedented and unusual has caught the attention of both fans and insiders. Two of Ferrari’s top drivers—seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and long-time Scuderia driver Charles Leclerc—have delivered cryptic and rather enigmatic comments that hint at deeper issues within the team.
The cryptic words from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc
Following the Canadian Grand Prix held in mid-June, Lewis Hamilton made a brief but chilling statement: “There are many things I would like to tell you, but I can’t.” The tone of that comment was somber and suggestive of internal problems, stirring concern among observers and raising eyebrows across the paddock.
He didn’t stop there. Just days later, ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, Lewis Hamilton added fuel to the speculation by saying: “One day, you will find out everything that has held Ferrari back this season.” These are not the types of remarks made lightly, especially by a driver of Hamilton’s stature and experience.
Adding further intrigue to the situation was Charles Leclerc’s own post-qualifying outburst after securing sixth place on the grid at Silverstone. The Monegasque driver explained, “We have very specific problems that are making qualifying far more difficult. There are some strange things going on, but we know where they come from and I believe we have the solution.”
Despite the press pushing for clarification, Charles Leclerc refused to go into details: “Is the solution related to the upgrades? No, there’s something else in the car that we’ve never spoken about—and it’s better that way. For now, we hope that the fix will come soon.”
Asked about Charles Leclerc’s comments by Sky Sport F1, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur confirmed, “Yes, I know what Charles is referring to, but I can’t explain it publicly.”
A mystery inside Maranello: structural flaw, internal politics, or something more?
At this point, the question practically asks itself: what are the cryptic messages from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc really pointing to? Are they hinting at a structural flaw in the SF-25 Formula 1 car? A problem with Ferrari’s internal organization or leadership structure? Or are we simply witnessing mounting frustration after a string of underwhelming results?
Could it even be a deeper concern—a lack of trust in the team’s technical department as Formula 1 heads toward the major regulation changes in 2026?
Speculation could go on endlessly. The list of potential issues is long, and without further information, nothing can be confirmed. But one thing seems certain for now: the truth is not likely to come out anytime soon. And perhaps, just perhaps, it is better that way—for the sake of stability at Ferrari.
Because if the details of what’s really going on behind the scenes were to surface now, Ferrari might find itself caught in the middle of a full-blown crisis.
