Ferrari could once again turn its attention to Christian Horner, with President John Elkann long being an admirer of the British manager; the rumor…
In recent months there had been talk of Ferrari approaching Christian Horner following his turbulent departure from Red Bull; however, in the end, this option did not materialize, and the Maranello team decided to renew Fréd Vasseur’s contract, even though Elkann’s admiration for the English manager and the negative results highlighted by the current team principal could reshuffle the cards on the table.
The Prancing Horse needs to return to victory after nearly two decades of drought. At the start of his tenure, Vasseur seemed capable of providing the boost that had been missing until now, but to date, the Frenchman has not succeeded in his mission, especially after the disappointing 2025 season. Horner, on the other hand, has shaped Red Bull since its inception and turned it into a fully winning team, something Ferrari urgently needs right now.
Could Horner arrive in Maranello?
What has reopened the possibility of discussing with Horner is mainly the fact that just this week, the British manager put a definitive end to the so-called Hornergate. Last month, the former Red Bull team principal officially severed ties with the Austrian team and is now free. However, he will likely have to serve a significant gardening period. F1-Insider.com has suggested that Horner has avoided any lengthy processes to find a new opportunity, and it makes sense that Ferrari could be that opportunity. Vasseur, who has just been renewed, could represent an obstacle, although “despite the contract extension, Ferrari apparently wants to move on from Vasseur, and John Elkann is reportedly very focused on securing Christian Horner’s position.”
As repeatedly noted, President John Elkann is an admirer of Christian Horner, but let’s carefully analyze this news. Certainly, in Formula 1, all aspects are considered, and nothing is left to chance, but calm down. In our view, Fred Vasseur’s continued tenure will almost certainly depend on the results of the next season. Also, considering that Horner may face a gardening period that will almost certainly not end at the close of this season. Therefore, it is more likely that Horner could be an option starting from 2027, but we will have to wait and see what happens, and nothing should be taken for granted.
