Gian Carlo Minardi hopes to have an “extra” Grand Prix at Imola following the cancellation of this season’s race. Intense rains and floods in Emilia Romagna led to the cancellation of the 2023 event. The existing agreement between Formula 1 and the Imola Circuit includes two additional races in 2024 and 2025.
Gian Carlo Minardi spoke to RacingNews365: “We ourselves were very fortunate that the circuit did not suffer any damage, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the region. Together, we were able to help and support many people in the region. This is still necessary because there are many businesses that have suffered so much damage that they haven’t even opened. Slowly, therefore, it is only gradually becoming clear what the real damage is for the people and the region, and it is significant.” – he pointed out.
“We also hope for an ‘extra’ Grand Prix in the future,” he added. “For now, we have a contract until 2025, but we would very much like to organize the GP in 2026 as well. This way, we would be able to give something back to the region together because it receives a lot of money from an F1 race. For the region, we are talking about 270 million euros that come thanks to the F1 race.” – he concluded.
