Fred Vasseur ends speculation over his Ferrari future
Following statements from John Elkann, Fred Vasseur also decided to finally close the chapter on his future with Ferrari. Subpar results and a Christian Horner free from any Red Bull constraints were enough to reignite discussions about Vasseur’s position, forcing Elkann to intervene and settle the matter once and for all.
Contract extension and persistent doubts
The current Ferrari Team Principal recently signed a contract renewal, but rumors suggested it might not guarantee his continued tenure at Maranello. Now in his third year at the helm, Fred Vasseur has not yet met the team’s ambitious goals. After a 2024 season that seemed to mark Ferrari’s definitive resurgence, the 2025 campaign has quickly dampened fan enthusiasm.
The SF-25 bears little resemblance to the SF-24, which came agonizingly close to the world championship. The reasons remain somewhat mysterious. It is likely that changes were made beyond what was strictly necessary, with decisions that significantly altered the car’s performance and behavior on track.
Calls for leadership change and Fred Vasseur’s response
For these reasons, several insiders have openly demanded a change at Ferrari’s top, sparking the anger of Fred Vasseur himself. From the strong criticism after the Hungarian Grand Prix to the final closure of the matter following John Elkann’s intervention, the past months have been anything but simple for the Scuderia.
Elkann and Vasseur close the chapter
During the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation, Ferrari’s president addressed the issue directly, shutting down any rumors about the French manager’s position. “I want to express our full confidence in Team Principal Fred Vasseur and the work he is carrying out,” John Elkann stated.
Fred Vasseur later commented on these words following his team’s podium finish in Austin. “It’s definitely good for everyone to hear words like those from President Elkann. Although, in reality, I think they were meant for third parties since we are constantly in contact. What matters is that this issue is now behind us. Now we focus on the next race,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026
With the future clarified, Ferrari can now concentrate on the end of the 2025 season and, importantly, on 2026. The upcoming year will be the real, and likely final, test of Fred Vasseur’s era at Maranello. Ferrari must arrive fully prepared for the new regulations, and Fred Vasseur is well aware of this challenge.
