For Fred Vasseur Ferrari is similar to McLaren but the track says otherwise
According to Fred Vasseur, there are not too many differences between Ferrari and McLaren, despite the fact that the track is telling a very different story. With more than three hundred points separating them and only seven races remaining in what was supposed to be Ferrari’s comeback season, the gap between Fred Vasseur’s Scuderia and Andrea Stella’s McLaren speaks volumes. After the 2024 Constructors’ Championship went down to the very last lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the 2025 title could already be decided as early as the Singapore Grand Prix.
Vasseur’s words leave Ferrari fans perplexed
Despite the standings, Ferrari’s team principal believes the two cars are designed according to a similar philosophy. However, the reality shown on track seems to confirm that this concept is only working in favor of the British outfit. Fred Vasseur addressed the topic at the end of Ferrari’s disappointing weekend in Baku, where the team finished only eighth and ninth. “We have had some very strong races when McLaren was flying, like in Australia or other situations. If they struggle, we struggle as well. This is because the characteristics of our cars are very similar, while Mercedes and Red Bull follow a different philosophy. That’s why if McLaren does not shine, neither do we. But this is the situation,” explained the Ferrari boss.
These words, however, stand in stark contrast to what has been seen on track throughout the season. The statement feels even more out of place when compared with a championship table that would have been unimaginable just last winter, making Ferrari’s current position look all the more dramatic.
