Home » F1 | Ferrari studying Red Bull’s “culture” amid validation of technical project 676

F1 | Ferrari studying Red Bull’s “culture” amid validation of technical project 676. Ferrari wants to put a lot of pressure on Red Bull in the 2024 season.

Ferrari failed to challenge Red Bull in the 2023 Formula One season. The superiority of the Milton Keynes team was too overwhelming, and they essentially had a very easy time throughout the season. The red team attempted several times but only succeeded in Singapore, a competitive scenario where the Austrian team struggled with the setup. For the rest, the pressure exerted on the reigning world champions was close to zero.

This is an important theme in F1 because adding tension to the existing pressure often leads opponents to make mistakes. In this regard, the Prancing Horse dominates in a negative sense. Despite the competitiveness displayed by the Maranello team, the results achieved by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were often less than what could have been achieved due to excessive pressure. This condition led the entire team to make mistakes on multiple occasions.

Changing the “narrative” is not an easy task, especially if there is a desire not only to eliminate it but also to transfer it to the opponents. To do this, the technical competitiveness of the mechanical means must necessarily be high, on par with the competitor in question. Secondly, the ability to optimize performance and simultaneously manage various psychological components that can negatively affect productivity must be acquired.

A solid, all-encompassing attitude, implemented at any time during the weekend, especially when events undergo alterations, and making the correct decision in seconds can make a difference. Without this method, the goal is difficult to achieve. There is hope that things will change in this regard, and the desire as well. We just have to wait and see if concrete actions will be added to the fine words.

Ferrari wants to put a lot of pressure on Red Bull in the 2024 season
The topic discussed in the introduction of the article is currently in the “study phase.” Undoubtedly, this is an important prerogative for Frederic Vasseur in view of the 2024 racing campaign. It could not be otherwise, considering the poor results obtained on this point that we witnessed once again last season.

The manager from France has identified several areas that need correction, which apparently, once corrected, will provide more certainty in decision-making. Undoubtedly, the breath of fresh air that the swarm of technicians arriving will bring should make a difference. However, awareness of the need to drastically revise decision-making methodologies prevails. For the rest, as mentioned earlier, without a fast car, you won’t get anywhere.

Assuming that project 676 lives up to its promises in making a decisive step upwards, the Frenchman at the helm of GES talks about Red Bull. He candidly admits that the mistakes made in 2023 far exceeded the limit. Here, he links it to the Milton Keynes team, emphasizing that no one was able to disturb their triumphant ride.

Max Verstappen was free to act as he pleased, a context that greatly facilitated him. The goal for the next championship is to put him in serious difficulty because, according to Fred Vasseur, as strong as he has shown to be, even the young talent from Hasselt has weaknesses. The conjectures of the red team’s principal make sense, and overall, the concepts expressed are undoubtedly valid.

Nevertheless, only with a winning team like the Austrian one behind can things be decidedly simpler. On several occasions, track engineers and technicians have done an excellent job of making the Dutchman comfortable in the most complicated moments, a fundamental element absent in the Italian team that will have to work on many fronts if it wants to achieve Red Bull’s status even in this regard.

Although finishing ahead of others every Sunday develops a winning mentality, it is also true that you don’t win by chance. The reigning world champions have put in countless efforts in various departments of the team in recent years, reaching a balance that allows them to optimize resources and act in the right direction to correct themselves, an approach that Ferrari wants to achieve as soon as possible, perhaps already in the 2024 Formula One campaign.

I get so frustrated with the endless analysis of Ferrari’s failures and how the Ferrari management and press media try to dissect every fragment of failures in trying to find the magic elixir of success. They need to stop this nonsense and focus on the problem.
The root problem is the car isn’t good enough to be competitive. The reason for that is the technical director isn’t good enough to lead the engineers. He doesn’t know how to build a fast car without tricks so he can’t lead the engineers in building a competitive car.
The pressure and mistakes will reduce if the car is good enough. Finishing 454 points behind in the WCC and 369 points behind in the WDC is not a culture problem. It is a performance problem. No amount of mistake free operations and culture correction will make up for that performance deficit.
