The new which was initially reported by the Italian version of Motorsport has now been confirmed: Scuderia Ferrari has started working on a very different SF-23 car as compared to the one that is getting ready to face the third round of the Formula 1 world championship in Australia, in an attempt to get back on top after a very slow start to the season in Bahrain and Jeddah.
The first updates will arrive on the occasion of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place at Imola on May 21st, but it is possible that we will see most of the new update package only on the occasion of the Spanish Grand Prix. The race at the Circuit de Catalunya will take place on June 4th and will be the ninth round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship.
It is possible that at Imola we can see a different floor and, perhaps, the modified rear suspension, while the sidepods more similar in design to those of the Red Bull RB19 will not make their debut before the Barcelona event.
The motivation? It’s quite simple: the Enzo e Dino Ferrari is a track that drivers like very much due to the driving difficulties on the ups and downs, but for the technicians it is a track considered of little significance for the development of a single-seater. In addition to this there is a longer time to review the SF-23 car which is destined to change its appearance a lot compared to the car that is racing now.

Between Imola and the Montmelò race there is also the Monaco Grand Prix: but it seems all too clear that if the Italian appointment can leave some doubts on the effectiveness of evaluating the changes, the one on the streets of Monte Carlo would be nonsense, given that in the Monaco Grand Prix everyone will have to line up the car with the maximum aerodynamic load, which means that you certainly can’t even measure efficiency.
Enrico Cardile’s staff, therefore, divided the SF-23 evo into two distinct phases which will have to lead to a car capable of getting closer to Red Bull and overtaking Mercedes and Aston Martin in terms of performance. In the meantime, Mercedes will also introduce its revised W14 version of the car.
The strong disappointment that was shaking the Ferrari Racing Division seems to have subsided: now in the Racing Department there is the will to get past this very difficult moment, once the causes that led to the disappointing performances seen so far have been clearly identified.
The Maranello team directed by Fred Vasseur went to Australia with the goal of not repeating the poor performance seen at the Jeddah circuit: the study of the data highlighted errors in the management of the single-seater, so tomorrow in free practice we expect an SF-23 car with a different starting point in terms of set-up. We will see the floor which was tested in Saudi Arabia for a few laps and there is confirmation of the rear wing (more loaded) equipped with a single pylon.
