Just under a month away from the Monza weekend, an image of Charles Leclerc wearing a tricolor-themed Ferrari jersey has emerged on social media, hinting at a possible special merchandise lineup for the home Grand Prix. The Brianza weekend, set to take place from September 1st to 3rd, shortly after the Dutch Grand Prix, remains the sole Italian race on the calendar after the cancellation of the May event in Imola due to flooding.
In the photo in question, the Monegasque driver can be seen wearing a red jacket similar to the one used throughout the season, but with some details that evoke Italy.
On the sleeves, you can indeed notice a tricolor stripe running along the edge. Furthermore, Charles Leclerc’s race number and the word ‘Ferrari’ in black surrounded by white can also be seen on the back. It’s reasonable to assume that the Maranello-based team intends to present a surprise for the fans at Monza, following the yellow-themed Modena merchandise in 2022.
In last year’s edition, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz wore special yellow uniforms throughout the weekend. This choice was made to reference the color of the historic prancing horse logo. Additionally, the F1-75 car was repainted in the same color in various parts of the car.
Twelve months ago, Charles Leclerc managed to finish the race in second place, celebrating the podium in front of the immense sea of red. The goal this year is to at least replicate last year’s result. A challenging task, considering that the SF23 has shown a lack of competitiveness compared to its predecessor.
However, while the battle for first and second place seems to be between Perez and Verstappen, the third place appears within reach for the two Maranello drivers.
Charles Leclerc is fresh from the podium at the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot. It’s a track with a similar layout to the Monza circuit, favoring a very low-downforce setup. For the red team, the home race represents an opportunity to make a strong impression in front of their fans. Moreover, it will also serve as a way to confirm the improvements seen in Belgium.”
