At Ferrari, the updates go beyond just the SF-23 car: starting from the Austrian Grand Prix, the Maranello team will return to an eight-engineer lineup on the pit wall, modifying the previous formation that only had six positions in the pit lane.
According to information gathered by the F1inGenerale Italian website, this new configuration will be tested for the next two races to allow Diego Ioverno to be present on the pit wall.
Diego Ioverno, who has been responsible for the assembly departments at the Scuderia, is expected to take his place in the pit lane position.
With engineer Ioverno filling one of the two added spots on the pit wall, what about the other one? According to the F1inGenerale sources, the last slot is expected to remain vacant and available as a “wildcard.” It seems that it has not yet been assigned.
The “eight-member” configuration marks a return to a previous setup: it was team principal Mattia Binotto who made a change during his time. At the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he changed the pit wall and moved his own position inside the box.
So, who will be on the Ferrari pit wall in Austria? Let’s try to provide some names. It should be noted that the Ferrari pit crew during practice sessions often differs in some aspects from the one on Sundays. During the Spielberg GP, the following individuals are expected to be present in the pit lane: Xavi Marcos, Matteo Togninalli, Laurent Mekies, Frédéric Vasseur, Ravin Jain, Riccardo Adami, and the new addition, Diego Ioverno.
